The East Bay Economic Development Alliance’s 7th Annual East Bay Innovation Awards ceremony drew a sold-out crowd to the historic Fox Theater. Oakland companies captured the top spot in three award categories, and both of the inaugural Innovative Artists Awards went to hometown legends: MC Hammer and Tower of Power.

In accepting the evening’s Clean Tech Award for their work improving the energy efficiency of cooling systems at data centers and other buildings, Vigilent’s Bob Thronson shared that Oakland was positioned to become the global center for green tech.

Elemeno Health won in the Life Sciences category for their platform that allows front-line medical professionals access to the latest breakthroughs and best practices to improve patient outcomes.

Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAFG) took the top spot in the Education category for their work to close the gender gap in STEM education before it begins with after-school classes and workshops for young girls and underserved youth. Joining SAFG as a finalist in the Education category was TechHire Oakland.

The award trophies were designed and fabricated by Oakland-based FATHOM.
